Have you ever felt like you were fine one day and slogging through quicksand the next? Or maybe you've had a feeling of malaise, off-ness, or an unsettled feeling for no apparent reason.
Been there, done that. Have the t-shirt and the tiara. After one of my bouts of depletion, this question popped into my head, "Is there such a thing as energy sickness?"
So, I took to Google and typed in "energy sickness" and sure enough about 88,800,000 results appeared in 0.52 seconds. (According to the Googler.)
I didn't click on all 88.8 million links but the ones I did click on confirmed it; there is such a thing. Energy sickness is described as being out of balance or alignment to the point that our own systems can't regulate. And for some, energy sickness can be accompanied by physical illness, such as a cold, body aches, headaches, or the flu.
WHAT CAUSES ENERGY SICKNESS?
Energy sickness is contagious! And here are a few ways to "catch it"...
other people's energy,
drama and chaos,
negativity, yours or someone else's,
going through a change, a shift, a healing period, or personal growth, and
WAYS TO AVOID, RECOVER, AND AVOID ENERGY SICKNESS
During my last bout of energy sickness, I did some of the following things, and my energy was not only restored but amped! Now, these things are part of my self-care regimen!
I went on a Facebook cleanse. Not seeing others' venting, negative posts, etc really helped. So much so, I deactivated my account. Surprisingly, I've not had a case of FOMO or regret since.
I became an observer of anything that has a tinge of drama or chaos attached. When I don't engage, I don't get energetically zapped.
If someone has a bad case of energetic stink eye I say to myself, "Not my storm." Why? Because my story-telling, inner-critic takes me on a wild story-telling ride about how I must have done something or said something that caused their crankiness. So, telling myself, "Not my storm," cuts my little story-telling buddy off at the pass.
Hydrate. Hydrate. Hydrate. Yep, drinking water helps a lot!
Get moving so I get the "feel-good" chemicals in my brain pumping.
I like to do some deep breathing exercises. Like exhaling longer than I inhale or taking a deep breath in to a 4 count, holding to a 4 count, exhaling to a 4 count, and again holding to a 4 count. Rinse and repeat 4 times.
Meditating. I love Insight Timer, as there's a wide array of uplifting meditations.
Music. This is my quick and fun go-to. Something that has a good beat and positive lyrics.
Now, when I feel the old energetic zap-er-roony coming on, I make sure to double dose on some of the above!
