Beyond the Hashtags: Staying True to Myself

So, last week I did something – I deleted my Instagram accounts. 🚫📸 It might not sound like a big deal, but for me, it was huge. It wasn’t just about ditching a social media platform; it was about staying true to myself.

You see, Instagram and I never really clicked. It felt like wearing shoes that were two sizes too small – uncomfortable and hard to walk in. So, I decided it was time to let go of what didn’t feel right.

It’s kinda funny how freeing it felt and still does, especially considering it’s just a social media platform. I don’t have any FOMO nor pangs of missing the stories and posts. Instead, it feels like I stepped out of a costume I didn’t even realize I was wearing. 🎭

This was me choosing to do things that vibe with who I am. If it doesn’t spark joy or scream ‘me’, then it’s a no-go. Life’s too short for anything less than genuine, right?

But how do you decide what to let go of?  Here are some practical steps to try:

  1. Ask Yourself Questions: What’s draining my energy? What feels like a burden or heavy? What doesn't really mesh with me? Honest answers are always a great way to gain some much-needed clarity around what’s working in your life and what’s not. So, grab a piece of paper or your journal and free-write, allowing whatever comes up to come out.

  2. The Marie Kondo Approach -Does It Spark Joy? Channel your inner Marie Kondo. Think about the things you’re considering letting go of (physical and/or emotional) and ask, “Does this spark joy?” If not that’s great data to use to determine what truly needs to go.

  3. Unsubscribe and Unfollow: Clean up your inbox and social media platforms. Unsubscribe from newsletters that clutter your email inbox. Unfollow people that don’t create that positive vibe or provide some valuable insight when you check your feed. Or if you find a social media platform (in its totality) a drain, consider deleting it.

Remember, letting go creates space for new experiences, growth, opportunities, and authenticity. 🌱✨

So, my friends, have you ever made a choice that felt small but spoke volumes about staying true to yourself? 🌟Asking for a friend. 😉
