Today I was feeling a bit nostalgic so I decided to look through some of my past writings. I found something I wrote two years ago. Something I had completely forgotten...something I thought I'd share in honor of anyone who has ever felt the pangs of "not good enough". This is shared with loads of love.
A Letter from 46 Year Old Me to 12 Year Old Me….
Dear 12 Year Old Pam,
There is so much I want to tell you about what life has in store for you. Mind you, I tell you these things not to hurt you or make you feel bad, but to arm you with the insight so that you can rise above any of the challenges and meet them head on as the strong person that you are.
You will be criticized and told things about you that are not true. Things that will tear you down and make you question who you are. I won't share the gory details with you, but I will share that despite what you are told, despite being made to feel small and insignificant, you will find a way forward. Why? Because not only are you strong, but you are wise beyond your years and you will take all the negative comments and grow from them. You will learn that they do not define you, but rather show you a better way to be.
Yes, you will even contemplate and attempt suicide. Not because you want to end your life, but because you want to stop the pain. You will find a way to overcome that pain too! Just know something, you deserve to be here. Plain and simple!
You will fall in love and be loved, despite what you are told as you become a teenager. You will be surrounded by amazing people and do some pretty cool things! As you continue to grow, you will understand that all the hurtful things said to you were just projections of fear from others. You will overcome not feeling good enough and you will use what you learned to support others in doing the same. The bottom line is this, you will not only survive you will thrive. Trust me!!
So here's to you and the loving, kick-ass woman you are on your way to becoming!
Me (46 year old Pam)
